Zoe Dubno, the author of BookBar's July Book of the Month, Happiness and Love, joins art critic and author Katy Hessel in conversation.
A woman attends a dinner party in a stylish New York apartment. The guests are the brightest, shiniest talent in the city's art and creative scenes and the party, in honour of a famous actress, is a party to be seen at. Yet the narrator sits in the corner, sipping wine cynically as she takes in the hypocrisy and posturing of the people around her. Whilst it's all she ever wanted, the view from the top isn't what she imagined. Happiness and Love is a disdainful look at New York society and a brilliant commentary on the relationship between art and consumerism, beauty and decadence, friendship and phony, told with a sharp and fresh narrative voice.
