BookBar Presents... Eliza Clark and Alice Slater In Conversation

£12.00Price

Join Eliza Clark and Alice Slater to discuss their block-busting novels Penance and Death of a Bookseller.

Following her cult hit Boy Parts, Eliza Clark returns with a masterful second novel, Penance. In a small seaside town, three teenage girls commit a brutal murder of one of their peers. Decades later, a journalist writes a true-crime book investigating the attack and its effects upon the local community. In Alice Slater's bestselling debut novel Death of a Bookseller, two booksellers form an obsession with true crime - and each other.

We can't wait to hear these two authors in conversation discussing their extraordinary novels, true crime and its ethics, obsession, community, and perspective.

Eliza Clark has relocated from her native Newcastle back to London, where she previously attended Chelsea College of Art. In 2018, she received a grant from New Writing North’s ‘Young Writers’ Talent Fund’. Her debut novel Boy Parts was released by Influx Press in July 2020, and it has since been Blackwell’s Fiction Book of the Year. In 2022, Eliza was chosen as a finalist for the Women’s Prize Futures Award for writers under 35, and in 2023 was selected as one of Granta's Best Young British Novelists of the decade. Penance is her second novel.

Alice Slater is a writer, editor and ex-bookseller from London. She co-hosts the literary podcast What Page Are You On?, and edited Outsiders: A Short Story Anthology (3 of Cups Press). Her fiction has been shortlisted for the Bridport Prize and appeared in Dear Damsels, Cunning Folk, and On Anxiety (3 of Cups Press). Her debut novel, Death of a Bookseller was an instant Sunday Times Bestseller.
